Taylor Swift wins and so do other girls at 2024 Grammys

Taylor Swift wins and so do other girls at 2024 Grammys
Taylor Swift wins Album of the Year for Midnights.

Even with a totally enjoyable, excellently produced album like SOS in the running for Album of the Year, everybody seemed to know that SZA would not be getting the Grammy. That was because Taylor Swift was also in the running.

You know Swiftie, she is such a dazzling presence, media savvy, business savvy and maybe even an authority on football plays soon, thanks to boyfriend Travis Kelce. Of course, her Midnights was named Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles last Feb. 4.

While I was disappointed that SZA did not win, this year’s results were truly something to be happy about. The 2024 Grammys night was woman power in music in such an exciting, affecting, even tear-jerking display. The girls brought home most of the awards at stake.

I wished that Olivia Rodrigo would get one for her Vampire but I am glad that Miley Cyrus’ Flowers was named Record of the Year and the brother-and-sister team Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connor again bagged Best Song Written for Visual Media and was also Song of the Year.

By the way, the Song of the Year gramophone is one that has avoided Taylor Swift all these years. It is a songwriter’s award which is more concerned with the raw words and music and not the studio expertise of a produced recording.

Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connor again bag the Best Song Written for Visual Media and also Song of the Year.

Anyway, the Grammys was female dominated again. I think that rapper Killer Mike and the metal band Metallica were the only male acts to land trophies. Even the other groups that did, Paramore, boygenius had girl members.

Remember, this was so in 2021 and 2022 when Swift, Eilish and other females were winning prizes. Beyoncé looked like a sure winner last year but then Harry Styles at his cutest came along and broke the trend with his Harry’s House.

Miley Cyrus’ Flowers is named Record of the Year.

The girls are back at the Grammys. Oh and not just as winners. The top performers in the show were also female. Fantasia, SZA, Miley and Olivia were great, and even the great Billy Joel paled in comparison to the laid-back beauty of numbers like an 80-year-old Joni Mitchell singing her dreamy classic Both Sides Now with Brandi Carlile and the reclusive Tracy Chapman coming out to do her own classic, Fast Car with Luke Combs.
