Laufey’s father is Icelandic while her mother is Chinese.
In 2020, while schooling at the Berklee College of Music, Laufey released her debut single Street by Street which landed at the top spot on Icelandic radio charts.
She was hailed as the Best New Artist in Jazz and Blues at the Icelandic Music Awards following the launch of her 2021 EP called Typical of Me. She also hosted her own program on BBC Radio 3/BBC Sounds.
The singer’s first full-length record Everything I Know About Love debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative New Artist Album chart and the lead single Valentine climbed to the No. 1 spot on the Spotify Jazz Chart.
Laufey became the most streamed jazz artist on Spotify in 2022, generating 425 million streams across all platforms.
Her Bewitched album earned her first Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 66th edition of the annual Grammy Awards.
Bewitched includes tracks such as From the Start, Promise, Bewitched and California and Me, and many more.
As of recently, Laufey has amassed over two billion streams across all platforms and is the “biggest streaming artist from Iceland in the world,” according to a media release.
