Dolly de Leon will help you make it in Hollywood
The local career of Dolly is being managed by CreaZion Studios.

“Hindi tayo madamot (We’re not selfish),” quipped our very own BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Dolly de Leon as we bantered with her at the semi-intimate “What’s New in Dollywood?” event at Las Casas in Quezon City just last Tuesday.

It was spearheaded by Dolly’s local handlers, CreaZion studios. She has an agent in Hollywood but she wants her local career in the country to be handled by her people. It’s such a genuinely kind move.

Now going back to what she said about not being selfish, Dolly was pertaining about her talents, what she knows and how she got successful in Hollywood.

Today, Dolly will be going back to her alma mater where she learned how to act and teach aspiring actors on how to land a role. The title of her workshop is “Auditioning for a Role and Landing It.”

As an alumna of the pioneering batch for the Certificate in Theatre Arts program at the University of the Philippines, Dolly pays homage to her theater training at the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts by sharing her audition techniques. This is the trend DUP Studio seeks to sustain — welcoming back the talents it has honed over the past four decades to inspire a new breed of artists and enthusiasts.

As an alumna of UP’s Theatre Arts program, Dolly de Leon shares her audition techniques in the workshop titled, ‘Auditioning for a Role and Landing It’ today at her alma mater. With her three films and one series with Nicole Kidman in the works, Dolly says about her success, ‘I am so thrilled that it is happening not just to me, I feel like it is happening to all of us, ito na talaga ang chance natin to be in the world stage.’

Dolly was even so cute when she said, “Who knows you may learn something from me, I hope!” Well that is for sure but all the aspiring actors had to do was sign up online at the Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (UP).

With her three films and one series with Nicole Kidman in the works, Dolly shared her success with Filipinos.

“I am so thrilled that it is happening not just to me, I feel like it is happening to all of us, ito na talaga ang chance natin to be in the world stage.”

Speaking of the world stage, Dolly just got back after wrapping a project in Chicago.

The thespian also took time to talk about her local film, Cinemalaya Best Picture Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing), in hopes of raising funds for a full-on campaign in Hollywood for a shot at the Academy Awards. The film needs at least P6M by early December to be able to tell the world in tinseltown about it.

Dolly explained that it is not enough that you have a great film. It is also crucial that you get the word out in order for many voting members of the Academy to get to see it and that requires funds.

“You have to host screenings, dinners, meetings, Q&A’s receptions and it takes money,” she said, adding. “It’s really for them to watch our film, and if you like it, vote for us, but if you don’t, you don’t have to vote for us.”

Dolly is set to take on her much-needed vacation in Batangas with her children to wrap up the year as she embarks on another big project next year.

“Meron doon puno, bundok, grass, I love nature kasi. Ako talaga iyong tipo na kailangan mag-relax after ng malaking trabaho. Kailangan ko ng break bago sumabak sa malaking trabaho,” she concluded.
