'High Street' cast share how their 'Senior High' characters have matured
MANILA, Philippines — A majority of the cast of "Senior High" will reprise their roles on the follow-up series "High Street," but given the events of the original show and a time jump, they will portray them quite differently.
Several "High Street" cast members shared how their characters have matured given their individual circumstances at the show's press conference last May 7.
Lead star Andrea Brillantes, who plays Sky, believes her "Senior High" character was mature for a teenager but lacked emotional maturity because she always puts herself first and was too impulsive.
"Dito makikita natin na mas may consideration siya sa time and feelings ng ibang tao. Hindi niya masyado pinu-push 'yung mga paniniwala o issues niya sa iba," Andrea continued. "Maliban sa maturity, makikita natin mas nag-loosen up siya.
The actress added that Sky previously only thought nothing else but justice for her deceased twin Luna (whom she also portrayed) and now she's able to joke and smile, "Thank God, nagsa-smile na si Sky! Ngayon niya pa lang inisip 'yung sarili niya."
Juan Karlos, who portrays Gino, said his character's beliefs and values have changed between shows.
"Sa 'Senior High' siya pa 'yung medyo bully and brooding na walang pake sa life, but then in 'High Street' all of a sudden Gino has this sense of guilt over everything that his dad did and wants to correct all these mistakes," said the singer-actor, referring to the actions of Mon Confiado's William Acosta.
He also touched upon being confused by the process Gino's mother, played by Ana Abad Santos, was going through, "We expect our children to take care of us when we're older but Gino, who doesn't have a problem when it comes to the financial side of things, has his mom going through a psychological and mental [phase] and is still being there."
"Napakabigat 'nun para kay Gino. I believe he's matured a lot especially choosing to be in law, 'yung values niya is something viewers should really look up to," Juan Karlos ended.
Roxy actress Xyriel Manabat said her character has the biggest change. At the end of "Senior High," Roxy found out that she was having a baby after she and Archie (Elijah Canlas) slept with each other once. In this continuation show, Roxy now raises their son Riley, who will be portrayed by Argus Aspiras.
"Knowing Roxy na maagang naulila, I know she'll do anything para maka-raise ng isang bata at ma-experience niya lahat ng hindi niya na-experience," Xyriel shared. "Makikita natin 'yung struggle ni Roxy as a mother and pagiging independent. [She's] strong pero deep down we know na nahihirapan din siya."
Elijah Canlas joked that his character Archie starting "High Street" in prison will definitely boost his maturity level, "I'm excited to see what Archie does if and when he gets out. Dami na kasing nangyari."

Zaijian Jaranilla believes his character Tim and Miggy Jimenez's Poch have both matured but are still in the process of finding themselves.
"Kung iko-compare ko si Tim sa 'Senior High' from dito sa 'High Street,' mas confident siya at hindi takot i-express 'yung love niya kay Poch at kung paano niya ipaglaban si Poch sa family niya, mas matapang," Zaijian explained.
Tim now works in forensics for the police, and with five years since high school, Zaijian said his character still carries some fears that his true identity may be discovered.
"Sa 'Senior High' lagi lang naman parang alagad lang [si Poch] kasi wala siyang means or pamilya around him. In being with Tim for the long run, I feel mas kaya na niya saluhin sarili niya and he knows what he wants," ended Miggy, reiterating Zaijian's comments about Tim and Poch still discovering who they are.
Also reprising their "Senior High" roles in "High Street" are Daniela Stranner, Tommy Alejandrino, Gela Atayde, Angel Aquino, Kean Cipriano, and Angeli Bayani, while newcomers include Dimples Romana, Romnick Sarmenta, AC Bonifacio, Harvey Bautista and Ralph de Leon.
