2 Pinoy na mandaragat patay sa atake ng Yemeni rebels sa Gulf of Aden

MANILA, Philippines — Malungkot na ibinalita ng Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) ang pagkamatay ng dalawang Filipino seafarers matapos ang panibagong pag-atake ng mga rebeldeng Houthi sa mga barkong naglalayag sa Red Sea at Gulf of Aden.

Sa isang pahayag ngayong Huwebes, sinabing napatay ang mga nabanggit sa Gulf of Aden habang sugatan naman ang ilang Pinoy na lulan din ng barko.

"We in the Department of Migrant Workers sincerely extend our deepest condolences to the family and kin of our slain, heroic seafarers. For reasons of privacy, we are withholding their names and identities," wika ng DMW sa isang pahayag kanina.

"We are also informed that two other Filipino crewmen were severely injured in the attack on their ship. We pray for their immediate recovery."

Inutusan na ngayon ni Pangulong Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. na maabutan ng kinakailang suporta at ayuda ang mga naulilang pamilya kaugnay ng pag-atake.

Kausap na rin aniya ng DMW ang manning agency at may ari ng barko upang matiyak ang kalagayan ng mga nalalabing Filipino crew nito, bagay na nakarating na raw sa ligtas na pantalan.

Nakipag-ugnayan na rin ang kagawaran sa principal shipowner at naturang ahensya para maasikaso ang pagpapauwi ng nananatiling Filipino crew members ng barko.

"The DMW reiterates its call to shipowners with ships navigating the volatile Red Sea – Gulf of Aden sea lanes to comply strictly with the expanded 'high risk areas' designation and to implement appropriate risk mitigation measures, such as rerouting vessels and deploying armed security personnel onboard such vessels," dagdag pa ng DMW.

"The DMW also calls for continued diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and to address the causes of the current conflict in the Middle East."

Nobyembre lang nang ibalitang nabihag ng Houthi ang 17 Pilipino matapos pasukin ng nauna ang isang cargo ship sa timog bahagi ng Red Sea.

Una nang sinabi ni Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary na maaaring may kuneksyon ang naturang aksyon bilang protesta sa digmaan sa pagitan ng Israel ang mga militanteng Palestino.

Matatandaang sinabi ng Houthi hostage-takers na wala silang sasaktang banyagang bihag lalo na't tinatrato raw nila ang mga nabanggit alinsunod sa prinsipyo at pananaw ng Islam.
