Payumo 'di kakandidato

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – Pormal na inihayag ni Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman Felicito Payumo ang hindi nito pagtakbo sa darating na May 2004 elections bilang gobernador ng Bataan sa halip ay tapusin ang kanyang termino bilang Chairman at Administrador ng Freeport Zone.

Isa sa dahilan kaya di kakandidato si Payumo bilang gobernador ng Bataan ay ang pagtatayo ng $215 milyon port development project sa Cubi point sa freeport zone na nais niyang matuloy sa kabila ng pagtutol ni Tourism Secretary Richard Gordon.

Ang port development project at Subic-Clark-Tarlac toll road ay dalawang complimentary flagship project ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo na nais ni Payumo na matuloy sa konting panahon na lamang ang nalalabi sa panunungkulan bilang chairman ng SBMA.

"I have decided to stay and finish the six-year full term as SBMA chair which will be completed by next year and focused on the implementation of two-flagship projects envisioned to spur economic growth in Central Luzon," ani pa ni Payumo.

Samantala, kasabay din na inihayag ni Payumo na susuportahan nito ang kandidatura ni Bataan Vice-Governor Rogelio "Boy" Roque na tatakbo bilang gobernador sa darating na halalan laban kay Bataan 1st District Rep. Enrique "Tet" Garcia. (Ulat ni Jeff Tombado)
