Matibay na programa kailangan ng bansa para sa susunod na AYG

HONG KONG – Sinabi ni Nathaniel ‘Tac’ Padil­la, ang tumayong Chef-De-Mission ng Philippine de­legation sa katatapos na 2nd Asian Youth Games, na dapat palakasin ng mga Na­tional Sports Associations (NSAs) ang kanilang youth development prog­ram.

“If we want to excel in competitions like this we must strengthen our youth program,” sabi ni Padilla. “We must focus on our young athletes.”

Kumolekta ang bansa ng dalawang gold at tatlong silver medals sa 10-day competition para sa mga atletang may edad 14 hanggang 17-anyos na ni­lahukan ng kabuuang 45 bansa.

Sumikwat ang mga at­leta ng medalya mula sa golf, taekwondo at tennis at may potensyal na manalo sa athletics, badminton, 3-on-3 basketball, fen­cing, judo, rugby, shooting, swimming, table tennis at weightlifting.

Ang mga nanalo ng gin­tong medalya ay sina Mia Legaspi at Pauline Louise Lopez at ang pilak ay iniambag nina Princess Su­peral, Francis Aaron Ago­jo at Jurence Mendo­za.

Ang 2 gold at 3 silver me­dals ng mga Filipino athletes sa Nanjing ang du­maig sa one-silver, one-bronze tally ng bansa sa 1st AYG sa Singapore no­ong 2009.

“There should be continuity. Once you identify the talents you must to push through with their de­velopment,” ani Padil­la, isang five-time gold me­dalist sa SEA Games.

Sa edad na 12-anyos ay nanalo si Padilla ng gold medal sa 1976 World Ju­nior Shooting Cham­pion­ships sa Mexico.
