MANILA, Philippines — Para kay Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) pre­sident Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, hindi ma­ta­­­tawaran ang naibigay na karangalan ni national weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz-Na­ranjo sa bansa.

Ito ay matapos mabigo ang tubong Zamboanga City na makakuha ng tiket pa­ra sa 2024 Olympic Games sa Paris, France na nakatakda sa Hulyo.

Mahigpit na niyakap ni To­lentino si Diaz-Naranjo bilang pagda­may.

“You’re still the queen,” sabi ni Tolentino kay Diaz-Na­ranjo na ibinigay sa Pilipinas ang kauna-unahang Olympic gold medal noong 2020 Tokyo Games.

“You are still our champion, you deserve all the ho­nor and respect for gi­ving our country it’s first gold medal,” dagdag ng POC chief.

Nagyakapan din sina To­lentino at Diaz-Naranjo nang mabuhat ng lady weightlifter ang gold medal sa women’s 56-kilogram event sa Tokyo Olympics.

Sa 2024 Internatio­nal Weightlifting Federa­tion (IWF) World Cup sa Phuket, Thailand ay mi­nal­as si Diaz-Naranjo na ma­kapasok sa top 10 ng women’s 59kg category.

Tumapos siya sa No. 11 place.

Nag-sorry si Diaz-Na­ran­jo kay Tolentino.

“You don’t have to say sorry, again, anak, you’re still the queen, a legend,” sabi ni Tolentino kay Diaz-Naranjo.

Ginawa ni Diaz-Naranjo ang kanyang Olympic debut sa edad na 17-anyos noong 2008 sa Beijing.

Naglaro rin siya sa London Olympics (2012) at sa Rio de Janeiro Olympics (2016) kung saan siya nag-uwi ng silver medal.
