Banat Opinyon

Adunahan kanhi ang Pilipinas

IYO ANTOY - Antolin dela Serna - Banat

Sa iyang pag-diagnose sa root causes sa graft and corruption, si Elfren S. Cruz, sa Philippine Star, mipadayag sa iyang kahinugon sa kahimtang karon sa atong nasud, nga sa unang panahon, matud niya, “The Philippines was the second wealthiest country in Asia next only to Japan. Today, we have fallen behind nations like South Korea, Taiwan and China and even Southeast Asian neighbors like Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand.”

Sayang, no? Nganong naingon man kita niini? Where did it go wrong? Tubag ni Cruz: “The main reason is that we are now one of the most corrupt societies in this part of the world.”

So, ang corruption maoy nakaingon niining miserable natong kahimtang karon, kon atong pauyonan ang pamahayag, o manifestation ni Cruz.

Mao kini ang ilang giingon nga ‘walang mahirap kung walay korap.’

Mipadayon: “We are a naturally rich country in resources. Our people are among the most competent, as evidenced by the high demand for Filipino skilled workers and professionals in the Middle East, United States, Japan, Australia, Canada and other advanced nations.”

Hinuon, miingon Crus nga ang corruption is not a uniquely Filipino trait.

Buot ipasabot nga most probably, adunay laing mga nasud nga naglunang usab sa corruption.

Apan ang corruption is as old as government itself.  Sa ato pa, as long as there is government, corruption exists. “In ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Greece and Rome, there are documented instances of corrupt practices,” padayon ni Cruz.

Be a hero, say no to graft.” Simple ra kaayo.

Apan, medyo lisud ning buhaton, kay many of us, mga fence-sitters lang, dili buot ma-involved sa mga state affairs, bisan kon kini makaayo sa lungsod.

Mipadayon ang Star editorial: “Providing tips on wrongdoing is already an act of heroism.

Blowing the whistle in public, testifying and seeing it through until the crooks are punished are even greater heroic acts. People can be heroes by saying no to graft.”

Apan, this is easier said than done, ug dili kini mahimo sa gobyerno lang. Matud ni Cruz:

“The government is not the proper institution to address these root causes.

The only institutions that have a chance to combat these root causes are the educational system or schools, the Catholic Church and its affiliated organizations, civil society and the media.”

So, gikinhanglan ang panagtambayayong, a corroborative efforts sa mga tunghaan, simbahan, katilingbanong kahugpongan, ug media, nga magtagbo unta sila in a national dialogue, pagpangita’g  solusyon pagsumpo sa corruption nga na-embedded na sa atong galamhan.

Giingon nga Political and economic power is centralized in family dynasties. Niini nga setup sa panggobyerno, motunhay gayud ang corruption.

Meantime, maghinan-aw ba lang ang lungsod sa pagkaharuhay nga pagkabutang sa uban nga nabulahan gumikan sa corruption?
