MANILA, Philippines — Eighty-four Chinese nationals linked to Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) were deported on April 11, according to the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

The overstaying and undocumented Chinese POGO workers were arrested in a series of operations in Parañaque, Tarlac and Cebu, Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said.

With the assistance of the Chinese embassy in Manila, the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission and National Bureau of Investigation, the BI placed the deportees on a Philippine Airlines flight to Beijing.

“This operation reflects our strong resolve in implementing President Marcos’ directive to shut down illegal POGOs and deport foreigners who violate our immigration laws,” Viado said.

“This is a stern warning to all illegal foreign nationals: we are watching and we will act decisively,” he added.
