Cyclist dies in Pasig road crash

MANILA, Philippines — Pasig’s traffic and parking management office (TPMO) will be stricter in implementing traffic rules, Mayor Vico Sotto said yesterday after a cyclist died in an accident along Shaw Boulevard.
The cyclist was traversing the bicycle lane in Barangay Kapitolyo on Tuesday when the driver of an L300 van illegally parked on the side opened its door.
“The cyclist was knocked out of balance when he avoided the vehicle’s door,” S/Sgt. Benedict Lagarte said. “At the time, a sport utility vehicle was coming through.”
Lagarte said the SUV was traveling at a moderate speed when it hit the cyclist.
Sotto said both drivers are facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
The vehicles have been impounded, he said. City hall is trying to contact the victim’s family.
