ACG probes Marcos Jr. deepfake

MANILA, Philippines — A deepfake of President Marcos promoting an online trading platform is being investigated by the police Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG).
Facebook page Inquirer PH Insider posted the fabricated video, ACG director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang said yesterday.
Cybercrime probers have coordinated with Facebook to preserve the video as evidence for the filing of cases, according to Yang.
“We are finding ways to figure out who is behind this,” Yang said at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay news forum.
Police said the Facebook account is being managed overseas, with a link directing users to an e-commerce site.
The Facebook page had operated under the name Deborah Webb, according to the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center.
The CICC has coordinated with Facebook and other social media platforms for the removal of the deepfake video.
“This form of digital deception preys on public trust by blending the likeness of a national leader with familiar media branding in an attempt to drive engagement with what maybe a fraudulent scheme disguised as a financial opportunity,” the CICC said.
