Spate of cruelty
For no reason, a Chinese national kicked a cat while resting in the Ayala Triangle area. The cat died because of this cruel act. Because the barbaric act was caught on CCTV, the cretin was taken to the barangay. But he showed enough arrogance, refusing to provide his address and told them to write to the Chinese embassy for the barangay to let him go. Why? That violated RA 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998. He should have been detained and charged. Does he have any immunity for him to be set free? Were the barangay officials intimidated by him? Or is there any other reason for him to be set free?
I will restrain myself from saying derogatory things about this sub-human. By now you know I advocate saving animals in need, so this incident just enraged me. I can imagine how my brother must have reacted after knowing about this. The cat was not bothering anyone and is part of that community. So, for this Chinese to kick him for no reason at all is just unacceptable. But what is more unacceptable is that he was set free. Now there is a call for the Chinese to be located, arrested and charged accordingly. That should have been done at the barangay. They have to answer for setting him free.
I cannot understand the spate of cruelty to animals lately. We have Tiktok, the dog who was shot five times with arrows in Negros Occidental. He is recovering but will require long term care. To this date, the criminal or criminals have not been identified. A cash reward has been offered for any information. In Mandaluyong City, a cat was also shot with a dart arrow. The perpetrator has not been identified. What have these animals done to deserve such cruelty? It is hard enough that they have to live off the streets. My advocacy is to try and provide street animals a home they can feel safe in and nurtured. There is no reason to harm them in any way.
There are calls to pass a revised version of RA 8485 to make such acts punishable with much larger fines and longer jail terms. Give the law fangs to deter any more acts of cruelty to animals. I’m having a hard time processing all these acts against animals, just living their hard enough lives. If that Chinese gets caught, he should not be deported but made to serve time in a Philippine jail or prison. The same holds for the other criminals at large. We need to put a stop to animal cruelty by making examples of these perpetrators.
