Of turnovers and goodbyes

I hate goodbyes. I'm never a fan of it all. I feel like it is the end of an era. Separating from someone or something that has been a big part of our lives, like three years spells a difference in how we do our daily routine. This week has been sentimental for me as the different local government units made their turnover ceremonies to the incoming administration.

As you can recall, the midterm election totally changed the political landscape of the highly-urbanized cities and the province. Those who frequent their offices have already become accustomed to seeing these people. Tomorrow noon, their time in service will end and we will welcome a new set of people - new faces, new rules.

I don't know how we can adapt to the changes that they will be implementing that quickly. However, I must admit that these times are exciting. We are seeing the comeback of those who have been in position but took time off because of the three-term rule. Even their workers who were with them before are now scouring the offices as they resume where they have left off, three years ago.

There is still a lot of hatred and pain from the election that transpired. I would like to call it the most controversial election of all time that stood vote buying and power play. Now we reap the result of the decisions that were steered by money and power. Was it all worth it? I hope so. We don't feel the effects of regret while we are still fresh from an election. It usually comes after.

Well, we can always give the new people in government a chance. Who knows? They could probably even change the way things are. There is a lot in store. I just hope they won't be carried away by favors from people who are in the higher authority. A good friend of mine who was elected as a vice mayor told me that in order to achieve unity, there must be synergy from below and not from above.

The last days are usually the most emotional and the most heartbreaking. I hope that as we flip a page in the books of our governance, we will be looking at good stories - those that uplift our hearts to make sure that every penny spent from our taxes is worth it.

Monday will be the most grueling day of it all, July 1st. Those leaders who tried their luck in the polls and won now need our all-out support. Without the people's watch and their trust, they are useless. Let us exercise our rights on our officials and make sure that they have been serving us, not the other way around. [email protected]
