Reader's views: Boycott China

- The Philippine Star

There are reasons why the navy in southern China is flexing their muscle to protect their fishermen in abusing the harvest of marine resources in Panatag Shoal - their growing wealth allowing them to seek more appetite for exotic seafood, their growing population’s imbalance and their lack of marine products, their shameless act of bullying to a weaker country.  They reason out ownership that this territory has been discovered and recorded by their seafarers since a thousand years ago.  If we accept to consider their claim, does this mean they can own the rest of Southeast Asia?  Since admiral Zeng Ho, the 14th century navigator? Take note, you cannot read any remarks from the heads of the politburo leaders in Beijing, for they are simply observing the “little freedom” and actions given to their media, navy, citizens, and the world reaction.

We do not deserve to be discriminated.  Filipina Loida Lewis is right.  We can boycott China.  Don’t buy products made in China, and don’t travel or visit their country. We do not need them. Travel around the Philippines, we have so many beautiful places.  There are even more beautiful countries to visit, where you do not need a visa. We do not need to work for them, we can work in other countries. We do not need to teach them English. We do not need to learn from them, since we can learn from more polite and civilized countries.  We do not need a country that does not respect international laws. We do not need their money.

There are many new Chinese who just immigrated here and are doing business in downtown. They even have their own associations.  They may not like or disagree with my opinion. I challenge them to speak out.  If not, leave this country.  Don’t abuse our hospitality.

Always remember you are just visitors. Behave.

You may ask why this writer with an oriental family name abhors greatly the recent actions of the country of his own ancestral decent.  It is because our forefathers taught us to defend, love this land, respect, intermarry, live and bear children, and leave your wealth where you grew up. As we place our name on the line, do not doubt our loyalty.   We are by heart and blood Filipino. Born to an oriential-Filipina mother, our family is proud to carry our passport and tell them we are Filipino.
