Habal-habal driver graduates

- The Ear -

SELF SUPPORTING. One of the college graduates in this city this year is a self-supporting young man who spent for his schooling as a habal-habal driver. His parents, he said, did not care about his education because he was considered the “black sheep” in the family. “Ganahan man gyud ko mo-eskuyla apan dili mogasto nako akong ginikanan kay maldito kuno ko,” Rudy (not his real name) said.

STRUGGLED. For three years Rudy struggled to earn money for his education. He took up a short vocational course which he completed through his own effort. “Wa pa gani ko kahuman sa akong kurso duna nay nihagad nako’g trabaho sa usa ka machine shop sa Mandaue,” he said. Rudy is 24. He was in school for three years to work on a two-year course. “Nalangan lagi ko kay hunong-hunong man ang eskuyla ko. Nihit man ang kuwarta gud.”
