Letters from two Talisaynons abroad

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

It says here that: “Sex prolongs life.” But it also says here: “American dies while having sex.” Who was that guy who said: “I believe only half of what I read in the papers.”

 Mayor Mike Rama wants some heads to roll at the CCMC because of the bulb explosion that hurt some babies. What will the mayor do with the headless people in the hospital?

* * *

 “Dog bite cases up in 2010” — Headline. Dogs are supposed to have their day. But it seems that some dogs abused the privilege given them by exceeding the limit.

* * *

 Trivia: A proverbial truth this: “When you’re thirsty it’s too late to think about digging a well.” — Japanese proverb.

 E-mail from Eleno Piolo-Ty: “We’re celebrating Women’s Month. Have you observed, as I have, that there’s now not much talk about women’s lib? Maybe because women have already become so liberated that talking about women’s lib is now passé.”

* * *

 Another e-mail from Anthony Gustilo, Bacolod City: “Libya is in turmoil. Libyan protesters want Kadhafi to scram and get lost. But the Libyan strongman says the people of Libya love him. He has indeed some loose screws in his head.”

 I have heard from former Talisay City Councilor Mario O. Rabaya again. Mar is doing well in Sarasota, Florida where he and dear wife Leandra are in retirement.

* * *

 Mar and Laddie (as he calls da missus) run a family-owned business dealing in antiques, treasures and related merchandise. They also spend some time doing religious and civic actions by helping distressed immigrants, mostly from the Philippines.

* * *

 I also would like to aknowledge receipt of a letter from Myrna Reyes McPearson, another native of Talisay City now residing in Australia. Myrna credits me for her relocation Down Under some 25 years ago.

* * *

 I didn’t know I have done her a good turn but she said she read in my column 25 years ago about the need for math teachers in Australia and she wrote to the school authorities in New South Wales. To shorten her long story, Myrna landed a teaching job and some three years later “landed” on the lap of John McPearson, now her husband.

 Trivia: Joseph Stalin banned crossword puzzles in the U.S.S.R. for being “bourgeis and degenerate.” — From Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader, 2010 edition.
