CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — A police officer was injured after he was allegedly run over by a tricycle at a checkpoint of the Commission on Elections in San Marcelino, Zambales on Sunday.

Cpl. John Nelson Flores suffered injuries in the leg and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Flores had pulled over the tricycle in Barangay Nagbunga, but the driver reportedly stepped on the gas, according to Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, Central Luzon police director.

The driver, identified as alias Bert, was taken to the police station for questioning.

Fajardo described the incident as an attack on law enforcers.

“Our policemen risk lives to uphold the rule of law and ensure the safety of our communities, especially during this crucial election period,” Fajardo said.
