Philippine won’t resume HSW deployment to Pakistan

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The deployment of Filipino household service workers (HSWs) to Pakistan remains suspended, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced yesterday.

The DMW said the Philippines would not resume the deployment of HSWs to Pakistan until a bilateral agreement is signed between the two countries.

“Only professional, skilled and semi-skilled workers are allowed to be deployed to Pakistan until further notice,” the DMW said in an advisory.

The department issued the advisory following false reports that the government had lifted the deployment ban of HSWs to Pakistan.

The bilateral agreement, according to DMW, will ensure the protection of domestic workers to be deployed in Pakistan.

In 2018, the Philippines suspended the deployment of HSWs to Pakistan upon the recommendation of the Philippine embassy in Islamabad.
