NDRRMC :Yolanda death toll now at 5,680

MANILA, Philippines - The death toll from Super Typhoon Yolanda in the provinces of Eastern Visayas has risen to 5,680, the state disaster response agency said on Tuesday.

In its latest situational report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the number of injured is still pegged at 26,233.

The NDRRMC also reported that the total number of missing persons has ballooned to 1,779.

More than 871,000 families or over four million persons have been displaced from their residences after Yolanda battered several regions early last month.

Of the total displaced persons, more than 125,000 are still staying in 426 evacuation centers, the NDRRMC added.

A total of P871.4 million worth of relief assistance has already poured in to the affected population in regions 4-A, 4-B, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, and Caraga by the national government, local government agencies, and private institutions.
