Zamboanga City logs first mpox case

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Local health authorities have confirmed the first mpox case in this city and advised residents to remain vigilant to prevent the spread of the disease.
The case is the second in Zamboanga peninsula since May following a confirmed infection involving a three-year-old patient in Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Dulce Ann Miravite, chief of the Zamboanga City health office, said the case was confirmed through a laboratory test conducted at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.
Miravite said the patient, who is now recovering, developed fever and rashes on July 6 and has since been placed under home isolation.
After learning about the case, the city health office immediately conducted an investigation, specimen collection and contact tracing.
Miravite said the patient has no travel history outside the city.
The patient’s four close contacts have been identified, isolated and monitored for any mpox symptom.
