2 songs at the MMFF: SB19’s Pablo, Stell react to ‘Green Bones’
MANILA, Philippines — SB19’s Stell said that he was “very touched” after watching GMA Pictures and Brightburn Entertainment's "Green Bones,” an entry to the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival this year.
His SB19 bandmate, Pablo, had a similar reaction to it after watching it during the film’s black carpet and premiere screening last Friday in SM North Edsa The Block in Quezon City.
“Napaka-ganda po ng mensahe ng movie. Personally, nakaka-relate tayo,” Pablo said.
The group’s leader said that he was surprised to find out that their song “Nyebe” fit in the movie’s scenes where it was used an instrumental background music.
“Nakakagulat lang din po kasi for us, there’s a different meaning para doon sa kanta namin, pero habang pinapatugtog siya at pinapakita ‘yung scenes sa movie, sabi, ‘Ah, pwede pala ‘yun, na tumugma ‘yung lyrics niya kahit iba ‘yung storya niya,’” Pablo said to a group of reporters who interviewed them right after the screening.
“Nyebe” was written by Pablo and was released as a ballad in December 2022.
“I was thinking about the feeling of hopelessness, knowing and accepting that things are changing too fast. Time doesn’t stop, things around us happen so fast,. At the end of the day, matutunaw rin ang nyebe. We just have to live with it and pray, there is always a ray of hope,” Pablo said in an interview in 2022.

"Nyebe" was played in some of the crucial scenes in the movie that feature one of its main characters, Domingo Zamora, portrayed by Dennis Trillo.
“Green Bones” tells the story of Zamora who gets imprisoned for killing his sister and niece in cold blood. He is sent to San Fabian, where he gets the chance to have his sentence reduced for good behavior until a new corrections officer Xavier Gonzaga (Ruru Madrid) is assigned in the facility. Gonzaga is hell bent on proving that Zamora is pretending to have turned a new leaf, asserting that criminals remain rotten to the core.
The movie also stars Alessandra de Rossi, Nonie Buencamino, Ronnie Lazaro, Sienna Stevens, Michael de Mesa, Victor Neri, Royce Cabrera, Sofia Pablo, Mikoy Morales and Wendell Ramos, with Iza Calzado in a special role.
"Green Bones" is co-produced by Brightburn Entertainment, the production outfit of Dennis and his wife, actress Jennylyn Mercado. It is directed by Zig Madamba Dulay, with screenply by National Artist for Film Ricky Lee and Anj Atienza.
“Nagpapa-salamat po kami sa bumubuo ng ‘Green Bones’ for using our song. Sana mapanood po ito ng maraming Filipino kasi napakaganda po ng istorya,” Pablo ended.
SB19’s other song, “Mapa,” is also featured as a theme song of another entry this year, “And the Breadwinner Is…,” starring Vice Ganda, Eugene Domingo, Maris Racal, Anthony Jennings, and Gladys Reyes.
"Mapa" is part of SB19’s 2021 EP “Pagsibol.”
