'Sobrang weird e': Director Roman Perez Jr reacts to Vivamax piracy on app
MANILA, Philippines — Vivamax director Roman Perez Jr. finds it "weird" how Vivamax movies are being pirated on other sites, with some even streaming first on other apps other than the streaming platform.
Philstar.com asked the director for his thoughts on the issue in an exclusive interview.
"Sobrang weird e. Parang malaking mafia na 'yan e. Ang proseso talaga namin, a day or a week before ka mag-final draft, i QC (quality control) na 'yon, meaning ipapasok na sa software sa base ng Vivamax na nasa China 'yon. Made-detect niya lahat ng pipiratahin ng kopyang 'yon. Kahit naman sa Star (Cinema) at Regal (other film outfits), bago pa ilabas sa cinema, magla-lagay diyan ng code 'pag na-pirata made-detect agad sa buong system," he said.
"Apparently ito hindi e. Ang weird e. Parang nag-pasa lang kami last week, a day after ng Vivamax Plus, nauna pa sa Vivamax Plus 'yung pirate e. 'Di ba medyo weird? Parang may malaking mafia talaga diyan na mahirap. Kahit sa Pilipinas, 'di nila ma-determine," he added.
Perez said they could not determine where the pirated copies3 came from. Some of the pirated movies, he said, were made available worldwide.
"Once na pumasok na sa Vivamax Plus, siyempre pumapasok na sa European countries, lalo na sa mga Arab countries, Southeast Asia. 'Di natin alam ngayon kung san nanggagaling 'yung kopya na 'yon. Lagi ko ngang sinasabi diyan, kahit anong i-rant natin diyan, malaking kompanya ng data breach 'yan," he said.
Perez said that Viva is upgrading its security system, hoping that it will be able to resolve the piracy issue.
Meanwhile, Perez directed the movie “Boy Kaldag,” starring Benz Sangalang as a viral sensation with a mysterious curse tied to his private anatomy.
The movie revolves around Dakila “Dax” Dakobuto, a man who rose to internet stardom for his masked kaldag moves, thus earning him the moniker “Kaldag King.”
Behind the fame and fans, Dax is hiding a dark, peculiar curse linked to his manhood. From a young age, he has grappled with its extraordinary size, and as he became sexually active, another truth emerged — those who come into contact with his private part face grave misfortune, or worse, death.
One day, he crosses paths with his childhood crush, Bettina (Dyessa Garcia), who is about to marry a powerful congressman. Invited to perform at her bridal shower, the night takes an unexpected turn fueled by alcohol, leading to an intimate encounter between Bettina and Dax. This triggers events that not only endanger Dax’s life but also unravel deeper secrets.
“Boy Kaldag” starts streaming on Vivamax this December 27.
