TAPE co-founder Romeo Jalosjos Sr. passes away at 85
MANILA, Philippines — Former Zamboanga del Norte 1st District Rep. Romeo "Nonong" Garcia Jalosjos Sr. died on Sunday, August 2. He was 85.
His son, former Zamboanga del Norte 1st District Rep. and former Dapitan City Mayor Seth Frederick Pal "Bullet" Jalosjos, announced his father's passing in a social media post.
"It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of our beloved father," Seth wrote.
The family described Jalosjos as a dedicated public servant, media executive, and businessman who devoted his life to serving others.
"While we grieve his passing, we also celebrate a life lived with extraordinary purpose," the family said, thanking everyone who sent prayers and messages of support.
His wake will be held at The Heritage Park in Taguig City from August 3 to 5, and at the Gloria de Dapitan Complex in Dapitan City from August 6 to 12.
Jalosjos entered politics in 1984 after winning a seat in the Batasang Pambansa. He later served as representative of Zamboanga del Norte's 1st District from 1995 until 2002.
Before entering politics, he worked in television production. He co-founded several production companies and, in 1981, helped establish Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE Inc.) with Tony Tuviera and TVJ — Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon — which produced the long-running noontime show "Eat Bulaga."
In 1996, Jalosjos was charged with raping an 11-year-old girl, an allegation he denied. He was later convicted on two counts of statutory rape, and the conviction was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2002, resulting in his removal from the House of Representatives.
