CINEMALAYA 2014: Enzo Pineda stars in his first indie film via 'Sundalong Kanin'

MANILA, Philippines- Enzo Pineda makes a debut in independent films through the Cinemalaya film “Sundalong Kanin.”

“Actually ang-audition ako kasi last year ko pa gustong mag-Cinemalaya,” Enzo replied when asked how he became part of the fim. “Tapos nabigyan ng chance, so nag-audition ako and I'm so thankful na natanggap ako.”

He will play the role of Ruben in the film, “ isang soldier na part ng Lisa Fe,” he said describing his role. “It's about the Filipino-Japanese war, isa ako sa nakatakas sa Death March. Pagbalik ko, 'yong bayan ko is overwhelmed by Japanese forces. So ang problem do'n, paano ko tatalunin ang kalaban do'n.”

“Sundalong Kanin” is Enzo's second film, after he starred in the GMA Films thriller movie “Basement.”

He's done several TV shows as well, which makes this experience surreal for him.

“Acting is more than what you see in local television. It's art.  That's what I realized, it takes a lot of passion to work on something like this,” he said when asked what he learned from working on an independent film.

Also starring in the film are “ Nathaniel Brit, Ian de Leon, Marc Abaya, Gardo Verzosa, Via Veloso, Paolo O’Hara, Che Ramos, Diana Alferez, Dante Balois, Elijah Canlas, and Angelo Martinez.

“Sundalong Kanin” is directed by Janice O'Hara who started in Cinemalaya as a screenplay writer for “Ang Paglilitis ni Andres Bonifacio” in 2010. She then became a consultant in the indie film “Cuchera.”

After a series of screenwriting job for teleseryes, Janice jumps into the film world again through this film.

The Cinemalaya Film Festival will run from August 1 to 10.
