MANILA, Philippines — Rita Daniela is looking forward to making more series and musicals on Viva's many platforms now that she has signed with its talent agency after leaving GMA-7's Sparkle.

The singer-actress was with GMA-7, which later rebranded to Sparkle, for 21 years before making a huge career decision this year by signing with Viva Artists Agency.

“I really just want to explore new opportunities po talaga because we all know that Viva has a lot of platforms right now. They produce concerts, they have musicals, they do series, which is I heard, Viva Movie Box and Viva One. And I would really really love to try them all,” she said during her launch as the new Viva artist.

Rita first rose to fame after joining the now-defunct channel QTV’s reality singing competition “Pop Star Kids,” where she eventually emerged as the grand champion. Following her win, she appeared in various GMA-7 variety shows before being launched as a member of Sugarpop, a five-member singing group composed of the Top 5 finalists of the first season of the aforementioned competition.

In 2007, Rita expanded her horizons by venturing into acting. She made her acting debut through a supporting role in the action-drama series “Asian Treasures,” starring Robin Padilla and Angel Locsin.

After taking on several supporting roles in the succeeding years, she gained prominence as a “kontrabida” actress beginning in 2013, with notable performances in “Mundo Mo’y Akin,” “Villa Quintana” and “Impostora.”

Rita returned to her musical roots in 2015 with the release of her self-titled studio album.

In 2018, she landed her breakthrough role as Aubrey in the drama series “My Special Tatay" with Ken Chan. Her performance earned her multiple awards and nominations from prestigious award-giving bodies, including the Gawad Tanglaw Awards and the PMPC Star Awards for Television. That same year, she made her theatrical debut in “Eto Na! Musikal nAPO!,” a jukebox musical featuring the hit songs of Apo Hiking Society

The singer-actress also appeared in the romantic-comedy series "One of the Baes" and the film “Huling Ulan sa Tag-Araw.” She also performed the film’s theme song, “Umulan Man o Umaraw,” which won Best Original Song at the 2021 Metro Manila Film Festival.

In 2020, Rita added “television host” to her list of skills by serving as one of the hosts of the singing competition “The Clash” and the variety show “All-Out Sundays.”

She further solidified her status with leading roles in series such as “Ang Dalawang Ikaw” and “Widows’ War.”

Rita's first assignment as a Viva artist is an upcoming project with Viva Movie Box, Viva’s micro drama platform.
