'We will give justice to it': Xian Lim directs Dylan Menor, Jayda in 'Project Loki'
MANILA, Philippines — Actor Xian Lim takes on another hat as he sits on the directorial chair on the set of Dylan Menor and Jayda Avanzado's show.
Xian promised to give his best for the teen thriller "Project Loki," led by the up-and-coming Dylan and the daughter of singers Dingdong Avanzado and Jessa Zaragoza.
"We will do to the best of our abilities… We will give justice to this series," said the actor-director during the show's recent press conference held in Quezon City.
Xian consulted and closely collaborated with the book’s author, R.C. Musni, who goes by the pen name Akosiibarra, regarding the direction of the series and the appearance of the characters.
Musni said that he closely watched the making of the live-action adaptation of his online novel.
"Talagang binabantayan namin hindi lang 'yung visuals nila… pero 'yung pinakaimportante ay kung paano sila magsalita, manamit, at kumilos," Musni said.
Musni promised that the adaptation will remain faithful to what followers read on Wattpad.
“Kung ano yung nabasa niyo sa book, malapit doon o 'yung mismo ang inyong aabangan sa adaptation na ito,” he said.
"Project Loki" has over 93 million reads on Wattpad. It follows Lorelei (Jayda) and Loki (Dylan) as they investigate a series of unsettling incidents at Clark University.
Meet the characters
The entire cast of the series is also excited to bring their characters to life.
“Something unique about 'Project Loki' is, even though meron siyang kaunting delulu moments, natutuwa ako sa mga shippers online ng ‘Loreki’ at ng ‘Lorethor,’ so excited ako to play up those scenes,” Jayda said.
Jayda's Lorelei has two popular pairing or "ship" in the series: Loreki with Dylan's Loki and Lorethor with Luthor, played by Marco Gallo.
Dylan also shared what similarities he has with Loki.
“Lumalabas din naman 'yung pagiging nonchalant ko, pagiging mysterious… 'yun 'yung pwede kong pag-hugutan sa character ko para mas mabigyan ko ng justice at ma-portray ko nang maayos si Loki Mendez,” he said.
Marco, on the other hand, expressed his mixed emotions in playing the older brother and a character with a similar personality to him.
"I'm excited to do it, but then I'm scared at the same time because it's something new… you're like dipping your feet into new waters, and hopefully on set we're gonna be able to do it," he said.
Other cast members also expressed excitement, joy, and even shared a little teaser.
"You will love me, hate me… and love me again, but one thing's for sure, you will never forget me," said Yumi about her role as Jamie, a drama club actress with a photographic memory.
There’s also a mix of pressure and excitement for Martin in playing Lorelei’s best friend, Alistair.
"Yung transition from romcom to thriller nakaka-pressure siya kasi ibang genre siya compared sa pinanggalingan ko, at same time I'm excited kasi hindi na siya romcom, more on mystery na to eh… it's very exciting," he said.
