Rowan Atkinson enjoys Mr. Bean character but 'dislikes' him as a person
MANILA, Philippines — British comedian Rowan Atkinson has mixed feelings about one of his most popular characters, the eternally hilarious Mr. Bean.
Atkinson shared his thoughts during the premiere of his latest show "Man Vs. Baby," where he reprises Trevor Bingley from "Man Vs. Bee." At the London premiere, Atkinson compared the characteristics of his past roles.
He described Trevor as likely the nicest person he has ever played, acknowledging that previous characters he played were "sort of deeply unpleasant."
"Mr. Bean is a selfish, self-serving, anarchic child. Blackadder is a sort of sarcastic and sardonic and basically negative force, I think," Atkinson said, referring to his iconic shows from the 1980s and 1990s.
Atkinson even called Johnny English — his spy parody of James Bond — "a sort of vain, sort of charmless" character. The beloved comedian reiterated his thoughts on Trevor being "one of his more pleasant, amenable creations."

"I dislike Mr. Bean as a person, I certainly would never like to have dinner with him," Atkinson continued. "But at the same time, I like him as a character, because he is possibly a bit like I was at age 10 — that sort of childish sort of selfishness and working things out in a slightly eccentric way."
Still, Atkinson repeated that he would not prefer someone like Mr. Bean to go around his own house.
Atkinson famously played Mr. Bean in a live-action show of the same name from 1990 to 1995. Mr. Bean was also made into two feature films and several specials, including the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony.
The actor continues to provide his voice in an animated series also called "Mr. Bean," which has been running since 2002.
