'Future of concert entertainment': VR concert launched in Philippines
MANILA, Philippines — A new era of concerts was unveiled at Cinema 17 of Gateway Cineplex 18 in Araneta City on November 19, marking the launch of the country's first-ever virtual reality (VR) concert experience in a cinema.
The "Gateway Immersive Experience" introduces the first VR concert format in the Philippines, combining VR, large-screen cinema and high-fidelity audio.
This format redefines the traditional concert-viewing experience by offering an even closer perspective than a front-row seat.
Viewers can feel as if they are standing right in front of a real stage, just a few steps away from a live K-pop performance or even within arm's reach.
"With this launch, we are not just unveiling a concert, we are reimagining how music and technology come together to create something deeply engaging, accessible and memorable through the VR goggles," said Irene Jose, chief operations officer (COO) of Uniprom Inc., the entertainment arm of Araneta City and operator of Gateway Cineplex 18.
Winston Llamas, chief executive officer (CEO) of concert production company Wilbros Live, emphasized during the media launch that this is "what the future of concert entertainment can look like."
Llamas also expressed hopes to bring more K-pop acts, as well as P-pop artists, to the VR platform.
This new entertainment frontier is made possible through a partnership between Uniprom Inc. and Wilbros Live, with AmazeVR as the content provider.
Its first screening features K-pop boy group Enhypen's "VR Concert: Immersion," showing exclusively at Gateway Cineplex from November 20 to December 6.
Wilbros also recently announced the upcoming screening of Tomorrow X Together (TXT)'s "VR Concert: Heart Attack," scheduled at the same theater from December 8 to 24.
