'Call out the right ones': Neil Arce defends Gela Alonte amid backlash

MANILA, Philippines — Angel Locsin's husband Neil Arce defended influencer-actress Gela Alonte, who is one of the personalities criticized for her lifestyle posts on social media.
On his Instagram story, Neil showed support for Gela, daughter of Angelo Alonte, the incumbent mayor of Biñan City.
"History would prove that I would be 100% supportive of bashing the corrupt. But not Gela Alonte,” Neil said.
“I have seen her work hard for what she has, and I have never seen a glimpse of brattiness or privilege when I work with her. Let’s continue calling people out, but let’s also make sure we call out the right ones,” he added.
Gela started as a content creator focusing on lifestyle. In July, she addressed critics who unearthed her 2024 TikTok live where she addressed a question on political dynasties.
“Paano ba iyan, nasa political dynasty iyong pamilya ko?" Gela replied at that time.
Her father is the brother of former deputy House speaker and Biñan mayor Marlyn "Len" Alonte-Naguiat. They are the children of Bayani Arthur Alonte, who was the mayor of Biñan from 1988 to 1992.
Gela later addressed the resurfaced video on X, formerly Twitter.
“I didn’t laugh out of pride or arrogance ; it was a nervous response to a question I knew would be met with criticism no matter how I answered. That was my mistake, and I take accountability for how I handled that moment,” she wrote on X on July 28.
Like many influencers, Gela is now trying acting and is currently part of the cast of the digital series “The Four Bad Boys and Me,” starring Anji Salvacion, Gelo Rivero, Harvey Bautista and River Joseph.
