How ‘Ang Mutya ng Section E’ changed Rabin Angeles’ life

From red-haired Yuri Hanamitchi in “Ang Mutya ng Section E,” rising star Rabin Angeles sported black hair when he graced the media conference and fan event of an international South Korean skincare brand where he was introduced as the newest brand endorser.
At the mediacon, Rabin narrated how his life has changed since taking on his breakout role in the Viva One hit series “Ang Mutya ng Section E,” alongside Andres Muhlach (Keifer) and Ashtine Olviga (Jay-jay).
“A lot has changed,” noted Rabin. “Every time I go out, the people recognize me. I was also able to help my mom. Nakapagaabot po ako sa kanya minsan at nalalabas ko na rin po sila.”
They were also able to visit places that they wanted to, now that they have the means to do so. “My mom would always request to go to Manaoag (Pangasinan). I wasn’t able to bring her there in the past because we didn’t have a car and wala po akong pera pamamasahe namin.”
Rabin now owns a car and was able to accompany his 50-year-old mother there as well as his two brothers.
Part of Rabin’s humble beginnings includes commuting from Pampanga to Quezon City to attend workshops before auditioning for “Ang Mutya ng Section E.”

“I would ride the P2P (bus) to Trinoma. Then, ride the MRT to Shaw. From Shaw, I would walk to Tektite (Tower in Ortigas). Kasi wala po akong pamasahe nun,” he recalled.
“Even if I was tired and the fare was expensive, I would travel from Pampanga to Quezon City for the workshop to show how dedicated I was,” he added.
His road manager asked him to audition for a project, and later did he know that it was for “Ang Mutya ng Section E.” “All of us auditioned for the character of Dres (Keifer). Yun po pina-memorize sa aming lahat. After I auditioned and went home, I thought I didn’t get in. Because some of my friends meron na silang characters.”
“My role was Yuri. I didn’t read the book, so I didn’t know that he was one of the characters in the series. When I learned about it, I really studied my character,” he continued.
In preparing for his role, he rented a place in Metro Manila and underwent more workshops. “I studied a lot. I studied acting, fight scenes, dancing, everything.”
Rabin’s acting debut was the Boys’ Love series “The Day I Loved You.” He likewise appeared in “Penduko,” “The Ship Show,” “Baby Boy, Baby Girl” and “Instant Daddy.” “Ang Mutya ng Section E” is his biggest project to date.
“Masaya lang po talaga kami palagi during the taping. We are all equal. We are just enjoying. Mag-tropa kami talaga,” the 20-year-old actor said of Andres and Ashtine.
Moreover, Earl Agustin’s music video for Tibok, featuring Ashtine and Rabin, has recently gone viral with netizens noticing the two’s undeniable chemistry.
“Sobrang saya po siya, yung music video kasi nag-mo-motor kami, it’s like we were just playing. Ang bilis lang natapos and we had fans who helped us (while filming). After that, we had a get-together with them,” said Rabin. “We didn’t have lines sa shoot. We (Ashtine and I) were just laughing and talking all afternoon.”
Rabin, who admitted that he has had no “official girlfriend” ever since but has experienced puppy love before, shared the qualities that he is looking for in a girlfriend. “(I want) a simple girl, ayokong parang nag-ma-make-up, pabebe. I want her to be polite at maka-Diyos, kahit hindi maganda.”
Someone from the press butted in, “Si Ashtine simple lang, hindi nag-ma-make-up. Do you find her girlfriend material?”
“Yes,” replied Rabin. “Nasa kanya na lahat, to be honest. I saw how she treats other people. She is very kind and down-to-earth. And she would also help others. She’s the kind of artist na hindi mo makikita na lalaki ang ulo.”
Meanwhile, Rabin recently landed as a brand ambassador of the South Korean skincare brand, The Lab by Blanc Doux, which was also endorsed by K-pop idols such as Seventeen, Lovelyz, and BTOB.
The brand is distributed by Viva Group of Companies’ Viva Beauty in the Philippines.
Apart from this, Rabin is also poised to launch his first collaboration with Viva Beauty — a fragrance line called Bin Perfume.
Fans can get a preview of Rabin’s perfume brand before the start of “Section E Nation,” the ultimate fan meet-and-greet show featuring the cast of “Ang Mutya ng Section E” on May 1 and May 2 at the New Frontier Theater. They will have a chance to participate in an exclusive pre-selling for Bin Perfume and a chance to have a photo opportunity with Rabin.
