ABS-CBN names new ‘Darna’ director
MANILA, Philippines — On October 5, a day after releasing a statement confirming director Erik Matti’s departure from filming “Darna,” ABS-CBN and Star Cinema have announced that award-winning filmmaker Jerrold Tarog is the film’s new director, still with Liza Soberano in the lead role.
“Jerrold, who successfully helmed the critically-acclaimed hits ‘Heneral Luna’ and ‘Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral,’ has warmly accepted the project and will soon commence working on the film,” Kane Errol Choa, ABS-CBN’s Head for Integrated Corporate Communications, said in the statement released to Philstar.com.

“ABS-CBN and Star Cinema are grateful to Artikulo Uno Productions for graciously allowing Jerrold to do the project. We welcome Jerrold’s fresh take, innovative ideas, and signature directorial style to make Darna’s return to the big screen a rare cinematic experience for moviegoers.”
In an Instagram post on October 4, Matti explained that “things didn’t work out ideally” between him and the network, which is why he resigned from the project.
Nonetheless, he wished Star Cinema, ABS-CBN and the next director all the best for the movie.
