CMMA awards Special Citation to 9TV

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The 2014 Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) recently awarded a Special Citation to Nightly News of 9TV (formerly Solar News Channel) for its Nov. 11 newscast on the aftermath of Supertyphoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

The newscast featured a story on Filipinos using social media to locate lost relatives. One of those featured was of three-year-old Tarin Bindo Sustento, who has mild autism. His relatives were interviewed on air via phone patch after search efforts went viral in social media. Tarin was last seen wearing an orange vest/floater and diapers. But to this date the little boy has not yet been found, and his relatives haven’t stopped searching.

The Special Citation was received last Oct. 29 by 9TV VP for News & Current Affairs, Pal Marquez and manager for News Gathering Ferdie Aboga at the Teatro ng GSIS in Pasay City.

CMMA encourages students and professionals to produce excellent quality mass media works rooted in Filipino and Christian values.

9TV News and Current Affairs department and management are thankful for the award.
