Robinsons Place Manila treats mallers to ballet repertoire

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - It’s an afternoon of tutus and leotards tomorrow, April 29, 5 p.m. as prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde and Ballet Manila perform at Robinsons Place Manila, Midtown Atrium.

Robinsons Place Manila gives its shoppers a special treat by bringing in talented ballerinas and danseurs to perform 10 exquisite dances ranging from ethnic Filipino to modern contemporary.

The audience will be charmed by Ballet Manila’s repertoire, which are Sayao Sa Pamlang, a combination of Sagayan, a dance to drive away evil spirits; Kzuduratan, a dance to show the manner of walking; and Singkil, a dance depicting a princess’ escape from the perils of an earthquake. It is followed by Dalagang Pilipina, a Tony Fabella choreography. It is a dance inspired by a fashion show with ballerinas essaying glamour and lyrical movements.  The number will showcase gowns created by top fashion designer Auggie Cordero.

Another piece to look forward to is the Arachnida, a pas de deux (dance duet) about a spiders’ mating. The Arnis dance, on the other hand, is inspired by the movements of the Filipino martial arts which originated during the pre-Hispanic era.

Tayo’y Magsayawan, Pumapatak Na naman Ang Ulan, Katawan, Sana Mauilit Muli, Da Coconut Nut and Sabihin Mo are exceptional numbers taken from Maynila ni Juan, an original OPM ballet suite.
