Art 2 Art marks 7th year

MANILA, Philippines - To mark its seventh year, Art 2 Art presents a month-long series on Philippine heritage. It starts today with an episode on Escuela Taller. Architect Michael Manalo talks about the school that teaches trade skills for the preservation of built heritage. These skills include carpentry, masonry, stone, brick and wood carving and metal work.

On March 9, representatives of Culinary Historians of the Philippines (CHOP) guest on the show. President Regina Tolentino-Newport, VP Pia Lim-Castillo and AVP Alvin Reyes Lim say that CHOP aims to study, promote and document Philippine culinary customs and traditions.

On March 16, National Museum art conservators Robert Balarbar and Raymundo Esguerra discuss the work of the museum’s Chemistry and Conservation Laboratory, particularly in caring for the country’s visual arts treasures.

On March 23, Art 2 Art features the historic Bamboo Organ of Las Piñas and the Bamboo Organ Foundation, Inc. which seeks to preserve the famed musical instrument completed in 1824.

Finally, the March 30 episode focuses on the Aliwan Fiesta, an annual showcase of cultural festivals from all over the country. Festival judges Ferdinand Jose and Prof. Eric Zerrudo assess why the event has been dubbed as the “Mother of All Fiestas.”
