Hair Asia’s Salon Spectacular 2013 on Nov. 19

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Green is in and Hair Asia is sounding the call for the Philippine hair industry. On the occasion of its much-anticipated annual hairdressing competition, Salon Spectacular 2013, on Nov. 19, Hair Asia trains the spotlight on the environment.

“The destructive onslaught of rains like the recent Typhoon Odette, counteracting with soaring heat waves are neither natural nor coincidental,” according to Hair Asia president and organizer Evelyn Alvaran-Cruz. She laments that the impacts of these weather disturbances like extensive flooding and landslides are very much man-made.

“We’ve abused the environment through our unfriendly practices in terms of waste disposal and we have to collectively act to stop and, if possible, reverse the damage we’ve caused. We are all to blame, and in the same way, we are all responsible for making amends,” Cruz continues.

Through Salon Spectacular 2013, an event which is annually attended by thousands of members of the hair and make-up industry, Cruz intends to promote the critical shift to environmentally sustainable practices in salons all over the country.

Cruz assures attendees that this year’s event will not lack in exciting highlights that the Hair Asia events have been known for.

Hair shows and demonstrations will be headlined by hairdressing gurus like Alex Carbonel, Victor Ortega and Danny Katalbas. Nothing can assemble the crème de la crème of Philippine hairdressing quite like a Hair Asia event. Stylists-to-the-stars Henri Calayag, Teng Roma, Patrick Rosas, Louis Philip Kee, Angelo Justin, Deng Foz, Bambbi Fuentes, Jude Hipolito and Rose Velasco are just a few of the industry bigwigs who will be in attendance to choose this year’s champion. Beauty product shoppers and junkies have something to get excited about as well. The Hair Asia competitions are always held alongside its Cosmetic Expo, the metro’s biggest one-stop-shop for hair, make-up and salon products, gadgets, equipment and accessories.
