Ruffa denies rumored politics plan, prepares for life after showbiz
MANILA, Philippines - Ruffa Gutierrez said her recent stint as a short course student at King’s College London in United Kingdom is not a preparation for a future career in show business.
It can be remembered that her mother, talent manager Annabelle Rama, ran for Congress in the first district of Cebu in this year’s national elections.
“With everything that’s happening now, forget it,†the actress said during the launch of Metro Magazine’s September issue at the Prive Luxury Club in Taguig City on Wednesday, August 28.
She added, “I’m happy with my life, with the little privacy that I have. And I can help people in my own little way.â€

Ruffa said she’s open to working for the government, but not necessarily as an elected official.
Last June, the actress announced she will take a month-long course on International Political Economy in London. However, she said she will take a course on Secret and Spies, Modern Espionage and Intelligence instead.
“I find it more fascinating, with the Edward Snowden case, with the terrorism that’s happening in all parts of the world. It teaches you about privacy, social media, the Cold War — I just find the course more interesting,†Ruffa explained her course choice.
As for politics, “Right now that’s not in my plans at all,†she said.
What’s next?
So what is in Ruffa’s plans right now? For one, the actress — whose contract with TV5 expired this year — is currently a freelance artist, just like her younger brothers Richard and Raymond Gutierrez.
She revealed, however, that there are a number of showbiz projects in the pipeline.
“We have a meeting today. Actually, we’re gonna discuss that later. But hopefully soon, you’ll learn about it,â€

But Ruffa is also preparing for life after show business.
“I know I won’t be in the business until I’m 50. Maybe I’ll work behind the scenes, producing, doing something in fashion,†she explained. In particular, Ruffa is thinking of doing a children’s fashion line with her daughters Venice and Lorin.
Speaking of her daughters, would she allow Venice and Lorin to enter showbiz?
Ruffa said yes — as long as they finish their studies. “Because show business is never stable. One day you’re hot, you have a lot of projects. The next day, you don’t. I want them to finish their studies so they have something to fall back on,†she explained.

Metro’s event on Wednesday was served Ruffa’s launch of the magazine’s September issue cover girl. It was also a fund raising event for the victims of typhoon Maring.

Known to be an important figure in Manila’s scene, Ruffa said she dresses accordingly — especially since she’s both a celebrity and a single mother.
“During the day, when I’m with kids, it’s more relaxed. It’s not easy being a single mom so I run around in cool, comfortable and yet sleek day clothes. I don’t wear heels during the day,†she said.
Ruffa added, “In the evening, of course, I go out of my way and I really try to look good.â€
