Jaya on ‘Sunday All Stars’: ‘You have to give it a chance’
MANILA, Philippines - Many were caught by surprise when GMA 7 launched its Sunday noontime program “Sunday All Stars†last June. A program that has elements of a musical program and a game show, Jaya admits there are some viewers and netizens who weren’t — and still aren’t — too shy to express their critical opinion of the show several months after its premiere.
But according to Jaya, “Sunday All Stars†is the type of show that needs time to grow.
“Ako, I can honestly say na it’s the type of show that gets better with time. And you have to get used to it, you have to give it a chance. Hindi naman lahat ng shows kakagatin the minute na lumabas yun,†she said in a interview with Philstar.com recently.
The format of “Sunday All Stars†groups its main stars into four — Ligang Like, Tweet Hearts, Insta Gang and Tropang Trending. The groups compete weekly through production numbers, and one group is declared a winner.
Jaya, who is one of the show’s main judges, feels some viewers may find the said format “weird†but adds people are watching anyway.
“We’re very positive because there are a lot of viewers. Maraming nagco-comment, maraming nang-o-okray, maraming excited — so we’re causing a lot of talk,†she said. “Hinihintay pa naman for people to get used to that kind of format.
However, the singer also believes the new format allows the show’s stars — which include the likes of Rachelle Anne Go, Christian Bautista, Mark Herras, Jennylyn Mercado, among many others — to become better performers.
Jaya explained, “The kids are competing. And it’s helping them become better as performers. We like the fact na we sit there and look at them and think, ‘Wow, nahahasa sila.’ It’s a good way for them to polish their craft.â€
