Recreated live action 'Toy Story' film goes viral

Dexter Rodrigo Matilla - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - In 1995, Pixar introduced “Toy Story”, the first ever full-length 3D CGI film. It was generally well-received, earning awards in many categories from different award-giving bodies but mainly for its forward-thinking approach in story-telling.

It even earned an Academy Special Achievement Award for Director John Lasseter in 1996 for “the development and inspired application of techniques that have made possible the first feature-length computer-animated film.”

Today, that film is being seen from a new perspective—from the creative recreation of Jonason Pauley and Jesse Perotta, who started “The Live Action Toy Story Project”  in 2010, aged 17 and 18 at the time.

The two published the result of their labor of love last January 12 on their YouTube channel jonasonsMovies and it truly is something to be seen to be believed. The 80-minute film stays true to the original “Toy Story”—it uses the actual voices from actors including Tom Hanks (Woody) and Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear).

As far as copyright issues goes, Gizmodo reports that Pauley and Perrotta got a go-ahead signal from Pixar themselves. The two was even allowed to distribute DVDs of their version at the Pixar HQ.

The video currently has 2,444,108 views as of this writing and comments from users , much like the original film, have all been generally positive.
