MANILA, Philippines - As we go to press last night, we got the news that Brillante “Dante” Mendoza and Nora Aunor were given special awards at the 69th Venice International Film Festival for Thy Womb (Sinapupunan).
Dante was awarded with the La Navicella Venezia Cinema honors, a collateral prize of Venezia 69 given by Rivisita del Cinematografo composed of Italian cinema critics. Thy Womb was chosen as the Best Film in terms of portraying aesthetic and human values.
On the other hand, Nora won the 2012 Bisato d’Oro Award for Best Actress given by the jury of independent film critics attending the filmfest.
The main awards night was set for Sept. 8 (Venice Time).
Thy Womb marked Dante’s second time to compete in Venice. The first was in 2009 with Lola.
