'Unconventional, unapologetic': M1ss Jade So vows to represent queer, trans artists well

MANILA, Philippines — M1ss Jade So will do everything in her power to wave the flag for the queer and transgender community, no matter what art form she performs.
The drag queen made waves locally on the second season of "Drag Race Philippines," then internationally on the inaugural "Drag Race Down Under vs. The World," making the finale both times.
Apart from her drag, M1ss Jade So is a recording artist having released a number of tracks under her label Offshore Music founded by Ely Buendia.
She and fellow drag star Marina Summers represent a new generation of Filipino trans artists, following in the footsteps of Ice Seguerra and Jake Zyrus.

In an exclusive interview with Philstar.com, M1ss Jade So admitted it was an honor to massively lift the visibility of her community while also pointing out the pressure of being a trailblazer.
"I'm just doing what I love, what I know is going to be authentic," she said before a slight pause. "Ang hirap niyang i-own up kasi baka maging responsibility siya."
The artist is grateful nonetheless and promised to "showcase her unconventional art unapologetically" in order to inspire others to do the same.
M1ss Jade So said it was irrelevant if an individual got less views or distribution than other performers, what matters more is how one touches or resonates with a another person as well as the community one will build.
