Star Magic rocks the theater scene
MANILA, Philippines - When ABS-CBN Star Magic was conceived in 1992, its main objective was to supply talents for the network and its affiliate, Star Cinema. Over the years, it has discovered and managed artists not only for television and film but also for other fields such as recording, concerts and advertising. Today, the talents have become stars, and are some of the biggest names in the industry. They topbill TV shows and movies, are certified chart toppers and endorsers. On its 20th anniversary, Star Magic widens its horizons as its talents conquer another stage: Theater.
Star Magic believes that theater is another venue where its artists can showcase their talents, apart from the usual TV, film and concerts. And so, in line with its tradition of providing the best and the brightest talents to the various avenues of the entertainment industry, Star Magic partners with Atlantis Productions for its latest and upcoming theatrical productions.
Atlantis Productions, established in 1999 and presently headed by Bobby Garcia, is well-known for staging in Manila popular plays and musical such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Proof, The Rocky Horror Show, Dreamgirls, Doubt, Avenue Q, Hairspray and Rent.
Atlantis continues its 2012 season with the critically-acclaimed Rock Of Ages, “a hilarious, feel-good love story told through such ’80s hit anthems like I Want To Know What Love Is, Don’t Stop Believin’, We Built This City, Hit Me With Your Best Shot and Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” International rock sensation MiG Ayesa heads the cast as Stacee Jaxx, a role he also played in the Broadway version. Fil-Aussie MiG was one of the finalists of the reality show Rockstar: INXS.
Joining the cast are two of Star Magic’s very own. In Rock Of Ages, Nyoy Volante plays Drew Boley, an aspiring rock star with big dreams. In her first theater project, Vina Morales plays Sherrie, a small-town girl who goes to L.A. to pursue her dreams of being an actress. project.
Rock Of Ages is directed by Chari Arespacochaga, and will run from June 15 to July 8 at the Carlos P. Romulo Theater at the RCBC Plaza in Makati City. For details, call Atlantis Productions at 892-7078.
