Test of friendship in Kitchen Battles

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Real-life friends, chefs Pierre Ivan Tan and Rurik Lavina, will face each other in a challenging cook-off tonight at 7:40 on Q-11’s Kitchen Battles. And one of them is bound to earn the most number of knives from the judges and remain in the search for the ultimate Chef Warrior.

Chef Warriors Pierre and Rurik became friends when they were still culinary arts students — even being accomplices in hiding the food they have burned and buddies in enduring cuts and burns they got inside the kitchen. Their friendship deepened as they explored the real world and worked their way up in the restaurant business ladder.

In the years they have honed their skills together, they have gotten to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Competitiveness was pretty much the name of the game they stepped into, yet Chefs Pierre and Rurik managed to remain allies.

Their friendship will be tested as they are set to prove who between them has the right to be the ultimate Chef Warrior in Kitchen Battles.

Three main ingredients will be featured. The challenge is to give a palatable and creative rendition of bangus, beef liver and grapes. Not to be left out is the secret star ingredient which they have to use in two of these main ingredients.

Host Zoren Legaspi will mastermind the battle, while annotator Issa Litton brings hot off-the-grill updates and chef judge Sau del Rosario gives the verdict together with Zoren and a guest judge.
