Talk about, yes, ‘first time’

I treasure my good friend Raoul Tidalgo, columnist and entertainment editor of the New York-based The Filipino Reporter, for a hundred reasons, one of them because he sends me not only bundles of US movie magazines every other month but also showbiz-related books such as the one he sent me two weeks ago, entitled Did He or Didn’t He? (The Intimate Sex Lives of 201 Famous Men) by Mart Martin.

I browsed through it and, hmmmm, I thought it might be a good idea to share some of the juicy items (from under the heading First Sexual Experience) with Funfare readers, to wit:

• Yul Brynner (1915-1985) – Possibly to a woman 10 years older, who trained him as a high-wire acrobatic flier in Paris

• Richard Burton (1925-1984) – To an usherette at the theater where he first performed as an actor

• Truman Capote (1924-1984) – Occurred at about age 12 when he was enrolled at a military academy in New York. When the lights went out at night in his dormitory, Capote was usually forced into the bed of a bigger, stronger boy. As he said, "They took sex very seriously."

• Sean Connery (1930-____) – At age 14 to an attractive older woman in a military uniform who accosted him while he was walking down a street.

• Bobby Darin (1936-1973) – As a teenager… to a woman he also later caught in bed with his stepfather

• James Dean (1931-1955) – To a pastor in Indiana during his senior year in high school. The same pastor delivered the eulogy at Dean’s funeral.

• Johnny Depp (1964-____) – At age 13, by his own account, but hasn’t revealed to whom

• Clint Eastwood (1933- ____) – At age 14; to whom is still a mystery, made more intriguing by his comment, "I had nice neighbors."

• Cary Grant (1904-1986) – Probably with a New York City impersonator when he was 16

• Rock Hudson (1925-1985) – Occurred with an older man on a farm he was visiting when he was in his early teens

• Don Johnson (1949-___) – At age 12 to a 17-year-old baby-sitter

• Rob Lowe (1964-____) – On his 15th birthday as a present from a neighborhood girl

• Al Pacino (1940- ____) – Lost it at about age nine or 10

• Sidney Poitier (1924- ____) – At age 13, to a woman in her late 20s to whom he paid some money for sex. She gave him that – and also a dose of gonorrhea.

• Roman Polanski (1933- ____) – At age 10, to a 13-year-old girl, while he was hiding from the Nazis in his native Poland. During their encounter, they knocked over a candle and set fire to the barn where they were doing it.

• Burt Reynolds (1936- ____) – At age 14, to a wealthy, much older woman in Palm Beach, Florida, who owned a store he frequented.

• Edward G. Robinson (1893-1973) – At age 20 to an unknown female

• Tom Selleck (1945-____) Unknown for certain, but Selleck has said, "I was a virgin past the time I should have been."

• Omar Sharif (1932-___) – At about age 17, to a prostitute in a parked car in Heliopolis, a suburb of Cairo

• Sylvester Stallone (1946-____) – Two tales have surfaced about Stallone’s loss of his innocence. One says that he lost it to the girlfriend of a fellow student in high school. The girl’s boyfriend followed them and caught them in the act, provoking a fight with the naked Stallone. The other story says that he lost it to a girl named Ingrid, who a day later was sharing her charms with lots of the other boys he knew.

• John Travolta (1954-____) – Probably lost it to a girl who attended the same school as he did in New Jersey. Travolta has said that he was 13 when it happened, but won’t name the girl, having said only that she wasn’t African-American.

• Clark Gable (1901-1960) – At age 15, in Cadiz, Ohio, to a very attractive widow in her 50s.

• John Garfield (1913-1952) – Unknown for certain, but probably with some girl in the Bronx where he was raised, when he was in his early teens

• Henry Fonda (1905-1982) – Lost it as a young man in an Omaha whorehouse. He called it "a horrible experience," saying, "It was just wham-bam. I was repulsed. It turned me off for quite a while."

• Elliot Gould (1938-____) – Has said, probably in jest, that he lost it to Barbra Streisand when he was 23. Streisand is Gould’s ex-wife, now married to James Brolin.

What about local actors and actresses? How did they lose it?

I doubt if any of them will tell.
