New Kapuso Jasmine Curtis Smith says network wars are ‘stupid’
MANILA, Philippines — Before she signed up as a new GMA contract star on April 17, actress Jasmine Curtis Smith told Philstar.com that she was happy being a freelancer and that she finds network wars “stupid.”
“It was one thing that I told my manager na ayaw kong maipit sa mga network war. Parang for me, that’s stupid,” she told Philstar.com in an interview during her launch as Pantene endorser in 2017.
“Let’s be open to be working with everyone. Be collaborative. Just be more, I guess, willing to be creative? Because that’s what we lack now because gusto ko d’yan lang s’ya. You know, nasasayangan ‘yung opportunity ‘pag ganun eh. Parang ‘pag if you restrict na dapat ang icacast lang namin ‘yung nasa network lang namin, if you deem someone else from that network or someone who’s not signed to not play that role.”
At that time, Jasmine was willing to work with actors from different networks. “For me, it’s just normal. They’re actors from a network na exclusive, but that doesn’t give them one more over me. Nasa talent ‘yan eh. If jive kayo ng vibe, ‘yun!”
When Jasmine signed with GMA, it came as a surprise to many since GMA is the archrival of ABS-CBN, where her older sister Anne Curtis is.
In an interview with Philstar.com on April 19 during another Pantene event, Jasmine admitted that the Kapamilya network also offered to get her.
“Actually, hindi po ako lumipat ng GMA for about two years. Wala na po ako sa TV5. Two years na pong wala na ‘yung kontrata ko sa TV5, nag-expire na po s’ya. And it just so happens matagal na pong nanliligaw si GMA and ever since natapos na po ‘yung previous contract natin kay TV5, nagpaparamdam na po sila ng other network and it just so happens na GMA ang napili,” she explained.
She assured that though she chose GMA, she has no bad blood with ABS-CBN. Her sister Anne also understands her decision.
“Very happy naman, wala namang hurt feelings. Work is work and I’m so happy to be welcomed so warmly and so lovingly by GMA,” Jasmine enthused. — Video by Erwin Cagadas
