RP gains stature as major non-voice BPO player

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines is establishing itself as a major business process outsourcing (BPO) player in non-voice services, according to the Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP).

BPAP is making a pitch to affirm the country’s stature as a major BPO player at the World Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Forum in Jersey City, New Jersey.

The forum serves as a venue for delegates to discuss the latest trends, issues, challenges, as well as best practices, in the global outsourcing industry.

The Philippine delegation included representatives from 10 Philippine BPO companies led by BPAP president and chief executive officer Oscar Sañez and former Commission on Information and Communication Technology (CICT) chairman Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua III, who shared to the participants the dramatic growth of the Philippine BPO industry over the past 10 years.

They discussed how BPO has become a $7-billion industry employing 450,000 people around the country, and se-cond largest BPO destination in the world next to India.

The Philippine officials also highlighted the country’s viability as a BPO destination, noting its large pool of talented, well-educated and English-speaking professionals.
