Triple treat signals new chapter for TV5
TV5 and ABS-CBN formalize a co-production partnership for the iconic Sunday musical variety show ‘ASAP XP.’ The signing ceremony is led by TV5 chairman Manuel Pangilinan and TV5 officer-in-charge Chaye Cabal-Revilla, together with ABS-CBN chairman Mark Lopez, president and CEO Carlo Katigbak, and chief partnership officer Bobby Barreiro.

It was a triple celebration for TV5 over the Oct. 9 to 11 weekend, with the launch of a new morning show, the premiere of a family rom-com and the signing of a landmark co-production agreement with ABS-CBN.

The festivities kicked off on Friday, Oct. 9, as veteran broadcaster Korina Sanchez-Roxas celebrated her birthday week with the launch of “Gandang Mornings with Ate Koring,” a new program that promises to put viewers in a more positive frame of mind at the start of the day.

Known for her distinctive interviewing style, Korina goes beyond the headlines to bring out the people behind the personalities. Her guests will range from entertainment and sports icons to child prodigies and ordinary people with extraordinary, inspiring stories. She will also share tips on where viewers can find affordable and discounted items.

Joining Korina are Laila Chikadora, the show’s barangay correspondent and co-host, known for her signature daster, and Cheena Crab, the show’s “pera godmother,” who appears in fairy-inspired attire to dispense money, practical advice and helpful tips.

Later that afternoon, select members of the media and fans gathered at the MVP Studio for a special screening of TV5’s latest lighthearted family rom-com, “Mommy Guard,” starring beloved ‘90s love team Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal, now fondly known as MarJo.

The story follows Tina (Jolina), a devoted mother determined to give her son, Happy (played by Star Worx artist Amo Wilding), a better future. Her path crosses with Pio (Marvin) following a minor traffic altercation that leads to a hilariously disastrous first encounter.

‘Mommy Guard’ stars the beloved ‘90s love team Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal, now fondly known as MarJo.

Believing she will never see him again, Tina takes Happy to meet the principal of a school she hopes will provide her son with better opportunities. To her surprise, the principal turns out to be Pio. Unable to afford the tuition, Tina accepts an available position as the school’s security guard, setting the stage for daily asaran, kulitan and lambingan, along with family challenges, unexpected friendships, and, of course, the possibility of romance.

Directed by cult filmmaker Roman Perez Jr., the series also stars Dominic Ochoa, Roxanne Guinoo, Susan Africa, Ruby Ruiz, Nathalie Apollo and Cedrick Juan, among others.

When Marvin and Jolina took the stage, it was clear that the kilig factor that made MarJo a household favorite in the ‘90s remains very much alive. Fans shrieked with delight as the two held hands and gamely answered questions from the press.

Asked about the secret behind their enduring chemistry, both stars pointed to their genuine love and respect for each other.

“Mommy Guard” premieres today and airs Mondays to Fridays at 2:30 p.m. on TV5 and ABS-CBN platforms. In a first for a Philippine afternoon series, it is also premiering on Netflix three days ahead of its television broadcast — a release strategy more commonly associated with primetime shows.

The weekend’s celebrations culminated on Oct. 11, with TV5 and ABS-CBN formalizing a co-production partnership for the iconic Sunday musical variety show “ASAP XP.”

The agreement was signed following the first “ASAP Concert Experience” at the Lapid Arena in Angeles City, Pampanga. Signatories were TV5 chairman Manuel Pangilinan and TV5 officer-in-charge Chaye Cabal-Revilla, together with ABS-CBN chairman Mark Lopez, president and CEO Carlo Katigbak and chief partnership officer Bobby Barreiro.

The concert brought together an impressive lineup of Kapamilya and Kapatid performers. Representing ABS-CBN were Piolo Pascual, Ogie Alcasid, Bamboo, Pops Fernandez, Erik Santos, Jed Madela, Aegis, Jonah, Donny Pangilinan, Belle Mariano, AC Bonifacio and Jane de Leon.

TV5’s roster included Dylan Menor and Star Worx artists Carmela Lorzano, Selina Griffin, Gianna Huelgas, Celyn David, Keisha Serna, Nico Matugas, Spencer Capistrano, Chan Martin and Patrick Ballesteros.

The three-hour spectacle showcased the artists’ singing and dancing prowess, transforming “ASAP XP” into a concert stage that brings together the talents of both networks.

Under the new agreement, TV5 moves beyond simply airing the program to become an official co-producer. The partnership pools the networks’ creative capabilities, resources and talent to deliver a richer entertainment experience for viewers.

Once a Sunday noontime staple, “ASAP XP” has now moved to primetime, bringing its signature mix of music, dance and star power spectacle to Sunday evenings. The show premiered on its new Sunday 7 p.m. time slot on Oct. 18 and airs on TV5 and across ABS-CBN platforms.

With a brand-new morning show, a feel-good afternoon rom-com featuring a beloved ‘90s love team, and a game-changing partnership that brings two powerhouse networks together, TV5 capped the weekend on a high note! The triple treat signals an exciting new chapter for the Kapatid network, promising bigger entertainment, more star power and fresh, feel-good reasons for Filipino viewers to tune in and make TV5 part of their daily viewing lineup.
