Janine Berdin’s manifestation becomes reality at first solo concert

MANILA, Philippines — OPM singer Janine Berdin’s manifestation came to fruition as she held her first solo concert at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City last Saturday.
Aside from performing her own music, Janine revisited the songs she had performed when she was still starting out in the music industry.
Singing from atop the set, Janine began the concert with Antoxic and Miskom from her latest album, “lab songs ng mga tanga,” which was released this year.
She pumped up the crowd and sang second child (intro), which she described as a track about her relationship with her mom.
Janine went on to express her gratitude to the audience for coming to the concert before performing SITWASYONSHIP, one of her first songs as an independent artist.
“Welcome to my first concert ever. I am thankful that you are here. Thank you so much. Backstage pa ako umiiyak, tinatanong ko kung may nanonood ba?” the artist said.
“Akala ko talaga walang manonood. We’re three songs in and it’s already the best day of my life,” she added.
For her next song, Janine recalled how fellow OPM singer Adie was the first person to believe in her music before performing a duet of their hit song Mahika.
“When this song came out, I was only posting my little songs on the internet and no one trusted me for my music except for this dude,” Janine said.
Janine admitted that love can get so ugly and make people do the most pathetic things to the point that they can no longer recognize themselves before singing PROMISE..!!!
The crowd went wild when Kitchie Nadal came out and performed Huwag Na Huwag Mong Sasabihin with Janine. Kitchie also expressed how proud she was of the younger artist.
“It’s so inspiring to know somebody of such a great artist like you. Ang galing ni Janine noh?” Kitchie said.
“Guys, kung alam niyo lang kung gaano ako kakilig ngayon. Nakakahiya, kahapon first time ko pong ma-meet si Ms. Kitchie tas shinare ko sa kanya na wallpaper ko ‘yung article siya sabi niya raw ako dat si Arthur Nery,” Janine replied.
She went on to showcase her new songs, including Uneasy, Pamamaalam and pretty pretty bird, filling the venue with heartfelt rhythms.
Janine also looked back on her past performance of Cool Off with Yeng Constantino, recalling how the latter had supported her throughout her journey.
“I look up to so many female OPM icons and I’ve always been so inspired by them and there’s this OPM legend who’s always believed in me,” the younger OPM singer recalled.
“Nung 16 ako, nasa ‘Tawag Ng Tanghalan’ ako at tinawag niya akong ‘Gem of OPM.’ She’s so generous. She always supports and looks out for aspiring OPM girls and musicians like me,” she added.
After their performance, Yeng stressed how she looked up to Janine and assured the younger artist that she would always be by her side.
“I’m so proud of you. Grabe, ang daming nagmamahal sa’yo, Janine. I admire you. I super admire you. You know that lagi kitang mine-message sa Instagram kasi nakikita ko ‘yung katapangan mo and how you execute lahat ng visions mo,” Yeng said.
“It’s amazing to see (you) … isa ako sa mga tagahanga mo, Janine. I will always support you. I love you so much, Janine,” she added.
Janine went on to sing more songs about love and heartbreak, including ALAS DOS NA!!! and Hayup Ka.
Janine became sentimental as she sang My Immortal by Evanescence, stressing how the band had influenced her pop-rock roots.
She also performed Banal Na Aso, Santong Kabayo, her best-known piece during her “Tawag ng Tanghalan” stint, where she won the competition.
The OPM singer did not miss the chance to showcase her Visayan roots as she sang Mirisi, a song featuring a mix of Filipino, English and Bisaya.
Janine surprised concertgoers when she sang Narda with Kamikazee vocalist Jay Contreras.
“I’ve been so blessed to experience things that I only dreamed about before and there are moments reminding me of the next dream I wanna work for.
“I’m amazed to have the chance to share the stage with one of my super idols, Kamikazee. I sang their songs during ‘Tawag Ng Tanghalan’ and I wanna share that feeling while I sing this next song,” the OPM singer said.
Before concluding her concert, Janine looked back on her journey and thanked ABS-CBN for giving her the opportunity to showcase her talent.
“I’ve been in the industry for eight years and I’ve been so grateful for the things that have happened and ABS-CBN, ‘Tawag Ng Tanghalan’ thank you for making my dreams come true and for hearing me out,” she said.
Janine also expressed her gratitude to her new label for believing in her talent and music.
“They were the first ones who believed in me even if everyone said it was the wrong move to believe in my music. So, thank you for hearing me out. Thank you for allowing me to live my dreams.”
The crowd fell silent as Janine belted out What if I miss you for the rest of my life?, a recent hit song that marked her resurgence in the OPM music industry.
She concluded her concert with Friendship Over and Ayos Lang and vowed that the best was yet to come as she was eager to create more music.
“We’re just starting and there’s so many things that I wanna share with you, guys. We have so many stories to share and so many heartbreaks to sing about but even more s**t to celebrate. I’ll continue to sing my stories, see you in the next chapter,” she said.
