Monopolyo sa issuance ng accident insurance itinanggi

Pinabulaanan ng isang consortium ng insurance companies ang report na may monopolyo sa issuance ng accident insurance para sa mga pampublikong sasakyan sa bansa. Reaksiyon ito ni Jose Reyes, executive assistant to the chairman ng Philippine Accident Managers Inc. (Pami) sa ulat na umanoy pa-iimbestigahan ni DOTC Sec. Leandro Mendoza ang umanoy cartel ng dalawang insurance companies sa issuance ng compulsory third party liability insurance (CTPL).

Ang pagpapa-imbestiga ni Mendoza ay bilang tugon sa reklamo ni Atty. Bong Suntay na ang Pami at Universal Transport Solutions Inc. (Unitrans) ang tanging pinayagan ng LTO at LTFRB para magbenta ng third party liability certificates, isang insurance benefit na laan para sa proteksiyon ng mga pedestrians.

Sinabi ni Reyes na ang Pami at Unitrans ay hindi insurance companies kundi ahente lamang ng UCPB Insurance at Stronghold Insurance para mangasiwa sa koleksiyon ng mga bayarin sa CTPL.

"In fact, Pami and Unitrans are only the lead insurance companies representing 70% of the insurance industry. PAMI is only an administrator of the industry’s program and general agent of UCPB Insurance for CTPL," dagdag ni Reyes. (Angie dela Cruz)
