6 Pinoy seamen sa lumubog na barko ligtas na

Kinumpirma kahapon ng Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) na nasa mabuti ng kondisyon ang anim na Filipino seamen na nailigtas matapos na lumubog ang kanilang barko sa South Africa kamakalawa.

Kinilala ang anim na seamen na sina 4th engineering Allan Omol, Aljess Miranda, buson, Lee Alemania, deckboy, Elizer Paulino, deckboy, Reantonio Vergara, deck cadet at Sherie Montano, engine boy na pawang mga crew members ng bulk carrier MV Alexandros.

Ayon kay Labor and Employment Acting Secretary Manuel Imson, patuloy pa rin ang ginagawang search and rescue operation ng mga awtoridad sa South Africa dahil sa ilan pang mga Filipino crewmen ang pinaniniwalaang nawawala matapos na lumubog ang kanilang barko.

Nabatid na mayroong kabuuang 24 Filipino ang sakay ng nasabing barko bago ito lumubog sa karagatan sa South Africa.

Bunsod nito kaya’t inatasan ni Imson ang Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) at Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) na makipag-ugnayan sa pamilya ng mga seaman upang mabigyan ng kaukulang tulong.

Base sa OWWA, makakatanggap ang pamilya ng mga biktima ng life insurance ng halagang P100,000, accidental insurance na P200,000, disability at iba pang benepisyo.

"We shall ensure that the six rescued seamen are repatriated safely as soon as possible to the Philippines even as we coordinate efforts to monitor the continuing search operations for the missing other," ayon pa kay Imson. (Gemma Amargo-Garcia)
